Summary: a brief statement of the content of the report
Western Europe is a very dynamic area for the furniture sector. It accounts for about a third of world furniture production, with Italy and Germany leading the field.
Italy is Europe's top producer of furniture and the third largest furniture consumer behind Germany and the United Kingdom. Although in recent years Italian exports to other European countries have been decreasing, Italy still has the largest quota of total furniture exports.
Germany which produces furniture both for the domestic and export markets, is showing growth. The main reason for this was the positive trend of furniture exports.
Western Europe is a huge market with an overall furniture consumption of about Euro 82 million, of which about half is satisfied by imports. The largest increases in imports were recorded in the United Kingdom and Spain.
