Summary: Highlights of this Report
Greek economy, after recording some of the fastest growth rates in Europe until 2007, registered a contraction in 2008 under the weight of the global economic crisis, despite a sound financial industry and sustained domestic demand.
About 60% of Greek furniture manufacturers are located in Attica and Macedonia and almost 10% in Thessaly. In these areas there are also the biggest furniture importers. Except for 2005, Greece has experienced continuous increases in furniture imports for the last seven years. Although domestic demand was sluggish, imports also recorded an increase in 2008. The main countries of origin of furniture are Italy, China, Germany and Turkey.
CSIL study The furniture industry in Greece offers a comprehensive picture of the Greek furniture industry, providing trends in furniture production and consumption, furniture imports and exports.
Greek furniture production is broken down by product (office, upholstered furniture, kitchen, bedroom, dining and living room furniture, other seating and other furniture and parts) as well as furniture consumption.
Greek furniture imports and exports are differentiated by country of origin/destination and by product (office furniture, upholstered furniture, kitchen furniture, bedroom furniture, dining and living room furniture, non-upholstered seats, other furniture, furniture parts and seating parts).
