Summary: Highlights of this Report
Norway has achieved top rankings with regard to standard of living, life expectancy, overall health and housing standards. It is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita, and the first in Europe. The Norwegian consumer is among the strongest in terms of purchasing power. The economy of the country is noted for its openness.
As far as the furniture market is concerned, Norway is the twelfth in Europe in terms of consumption and sixteenth among world furniture importers. Imports involve mainly the upholstered furniture and the office furniture segments. The exports/production ratio in the furniture segment has reached around the 40% over the last five years. Germany and Sweden are still the largest markets importing products from Norway, even if competition from China is increasing.
CSIL study The furniture industry in Norway offers a comprehensive picture of the Norwegian furniture industry, providing trends in furniture production and consumption, furniture imports and exports.
Norwegian furniture production is broken down by main furniture products: (office furniture, upholstered furniture, kitchen furniture, bedroom furniture, non-upholstered seats) as well as furniture consumption.
Norwegian furniture imports and exports are differentiated by country of origin/destination and by product (office furniture, upholstered furniture, kitchen furniture, bedroom furniture, non-upholstered seats, other furniture, furniture parts and seating parts).
