Summary: a brief statement of the content of the report
Even if Portugal ranks only twelfth among European furniture suppliers, the country’s growth performance has improved recently and the government has defined a clear strategy to modernise the domestic economy. Effective measures are being taken not only to make the business environment more dynamic and to foster innovative activities, but also to increase productivity and to achieve stronger and more sustainable economic expansion.
As a result the performance of exports has been improving, with some encouraging signs of the economy’s capacity to shift towards higher technology exports.
In addition, the Portuguese standard of living has improved since the country joined the EU with the per capita final consumption increasing faster than the Western European average. This obviously reflected also on the furniture market growth pattern.
CSIL study The furniture industry in the Portugal offers a comprehensive picture of the Portuguese furniture industry, providing trends in furniture production and consumption, furniture imports and exports.
Data are broken down by the main furniture products: office, upholstered furniture, kitchen, bedroom, dining and living room, other seating and other furniture and parts. Trade data are also provided by country of origin/destination.
17 short profiles are provided for the major Portuguese furniture manufacturers of office furniture and home furniture: addresses are given, information on product mix, export activity, employees, turnover, brands, parent and subsidiary companies are included when available.
