Companies in Sweden manufactured furniture for about Eur 2.4 billion in 2008. The country is home to some among the largest furniture firms in Europe in the segments of kitchen, office and, particularly, in the flat-pack furniture that recorded exponential growth with the arrival of IKEA. Sweden is now the fifth largest European producer of ready to assemble furniture.
With almost 70% of the furniture produced sold on the international markets, Sweden is the seventh European furniture exporter. Swedish furniture manufacturers have achieved strong internationalisation, strengthen their brands on the international market, and managed to control the distribution channels. This helped in maintaining an increasing performance - although the global downturn - in 2008.
