Furniture imports. 2000-2009
Furniture production in the UAE is very limited, and most of the domestic demand, which grew dramatically during the recent economic boom, is satisfied by imported products. Import demand for furniture has been rising steadily during the last decade (particularly between 2006 and 2008), driven by increasing oil revenues, the construction boom and expanding population.
By the end of 2008 the UAE economy was hit by both external and domestic shocks. The country is now starting to recover from these shocks, even though prospects between the main Emirates appears to be different
