Furniture production, 2000-2009
Furniture making has historically been one of Ukraine's prime craft industries. In recent years the Ukrainian furniture sector has experienced a profound transformation process. The transition towards an open market economy has almost been completed. The furniture sector has been undergoing severe restructuring and production has become more stable. A higher degree of technological improvement has been achieved.
Ukraine enjoys a strategic position between, between affluent Western Europe and the fast growing Eastern Europe and the Eurasian markets. Labour costs in Ukraine are still lower than in most of its export markets. Moreover, the Ukrainian furniture industry can rely on easily accessible raw materials.
