EFE 2026 Expo Setting the Stage for an Even Bigger 2027 Edition
PRESS RELEASE, April 2026
The 19th edition of the Export Furniture Exhibition (EFE), held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 3 to 6 March 2026, successfully concluded, reaffirming a key position among Southeast Asia’s furniture exhibitions. Organised by EFE Expo Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC), the event attracted exhibitors and buyers from across the globe, strengthening Malaysia’s reputation in the international furniture trade.
The event officially started on March 3rd, 2026, with a grand opening ceremony attended by the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr Noraini binti Ahmad. She was accompanied by Mr Chua Chun Chai, Chairman of EFE Expo Sdn Bhd, and Mr Desmond Tan, President of the Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC), alongside ambassadors, high commissioners, senior government officials, and industry leaders. Their presence underscored EFE’s vital role in driving trade and promoting Malaysian-made furniture.
The event began with a welcoming address by the EFE Chairman, Mr Chua Chun Chai. In his speech, he expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are honoured to welcome exhibitors and buyers from over 100 countries.” He further highlighted that EFE brought together a diverse range of furniture products, from ergonomic bedroom sets to stylish dining collections and eco-friendly living room designs.
To keep pace with evolving market demands, Mr Chua also announced the pre-launching of a new “Project Pavilion”, in addition to the MFC Award. “This initiative follows requests from industry members and aligns with the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the global economy. The pavilion is slated to debut at EFE 2027, with more details to be unveiled in due course,” he said.
These sentiments were echoed by the President of the Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC), Mr Desmond Tan. In his address, he noted that since its introduction in 2005, EFE has served as a vital platform for Malaysian furniture manufacturers to showcase their products to international buyers. The exhibition enables buyers to explore a wide range of products conveniently under one roof.
Mr Desmond also highlighted that the inclusion of the furniture industry in several national development plans, including the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the National Agri-Commodity Policy (DAKN) 2030, reflects the industry’s importance and growth potential within the Malaysian economy. “We hope the government will continue to introduce more supportive policies to assist the industry in achieving the targets outlined in these national plans,” he added.
Meanwhile, during her speech, YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini emphasised that the furniture industry, through its high value-added activities, has successfully transformed raw timber into products of significantly higher value.
She noted that this aligns with the government’s aspiration under the 13th Malaysia Plan to shift the focus from “Made in Malaysia” to “Made by Malaysia”. The Minister also commended the industry’s proactive efforts in exploring new markets through trade missions and participation in overseas exhibitions, which continue to create new business opportunities for Malaysian furniture exporters.
Following the opening ceremony, the Minister was taken on a brief tour of the exhibition, where she viewed and experienced some of the finest Malaysian-designed furniture products on display.
