Italy. Impact of imports on total household furniture consumption and breakdown of imports by area of origin, 2023. Value %
The Italian home furniture market experienced remarkable growth during the two-year period 2021-2022, while 2023 proved to be a more complex year, where in particular inflation and economic uncertainty negatively affected consumer demand for furniture and thus the market performance, which contracted slightly.
Italy’s home furniture imports are worth 19% of the total market. Although there has been a gradual increase in the degree of market openness in recent years, the incidence of imports remains limited compared to other European countries. The European Union is confirmed as the main source area for Italian imports, reflecting the strong industrial and trade integration that characterizes the area. It is followed by Asia, whose share has decreased in recent years. As for importing countries, China is by far the most important exporter to the Italian market, followed by Germany and Poland.
The main channels, such as specialized retail chains and e-commerce, are registering an increase in mobilization sales to Italy, although slowing down from the peaks of previous years.
