Abstract

Key Insights from the Report

The Belgian home furniture market is navigating a period of stabilization, remaining relatively flat through 2025. Additionally, while residential construction investment has dipped recently, it is forecast to stabilize by 2027, which could trigger a renewed demand for fitted kitchens and primary home furnishings.

Imports are a cornerstone of the market, with China strengthening its position as the top supplier, accounting for 29% of all furniture imports in 2024, followed by Germany (15.4%) and the Netherlands (13.2%).

The Belgian retail scene is witnessing a dramatic reshuffle as major chains adapt to shifting consumer habits:

  • The Big Sale: In a major piece of industry news, Leen Bakker has put its entire network of 44 Belgian stores up for sale as part of a strategic restructuring in 2026. Not everyone is thriving; Casa International filed for bankruptcy in Belgium in 2025, signaling the intense pressure on big-box home decoration retailers
  • Expansion Mode: While some retreat, others charge ahead. JYSK has announced an aggressive expansion plan to open 16 new stores in Belgium starting from late 2025. Similarly, èggo is investing to open new showrooms and renovate 56 existing ones by 2030.
  • Urbanization: There is a clear trend toward city centers. Søstrene Grene is opening its first Wallonian store in Namur’s city centre, and Kave Home is planning a small-format urban store on a high street for 2026.

This report provides a detailed analysis of the furniture retail market in Belgium, including market size, consumption trends, distribution channels, competitive landscape and future outlook.
