Poland Mattress Industry: Key Insights

Poland’s position is defined by a sharp divergence between its manufacturing scale and its domestic market: it is Europe’s second-largest mattress exporter, yet its own consumption base is comparatively small and, unusually for such a large producer, increasingly reliant on imports itself.

  • Market trends

A strongly export-driven production base — the large majority of what Poland makes leaves the country, chiefly bound for Germany. Domestic consumption, by contrast, is smaller and increasingly import-dependent, with China’s share of what Poland itself buys rising sharply.

  • Competitive landscape

A mixed structure rather than a purely fragmented one: global OEM operations tied to IKEA’s supply chain and sit alongside long-standing family businesses and export specialists. Investment is mostly domestic capacity expansion — automation, new production halls — with foreign ownership already embedded in the top tier rather than Polish groups investing abroad. Financial stress is visible at the mid-market level.

  • Recent moves

Consolidation and productivity investment are the twin storylines.

    • Aquinos Bedding Poland’s bankruptcy and plant closure (2025)
    • Black Red White’s recovery plan and expanded production in Biłgoraj and Mielec (November 2025)
    • Fey’s expanded production facility near Chojnice (November 2024)
    • Qemetica’s backward-integration move into finished mattresses under the Snoovio brand
