Newest trends of Brazilian leather on show at Inspiramais

Each half-year, the Inspiramais exhibition showcases the Brazilian industry’s latest novelties in materials for the footwear, clothing, and furniture sectors. Leather, fabrics, and other components are among key product categories.

Invited by the Brazilian Leather project, developed by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), CSIL has been attending the latest edition of this exhibition, taking place in FIERGS Events Center in Porto Alegre between the 19th and 20th of July, to keep an eye on trends in materials for the fashion and design sectors, with special attention to the leather segment.

At the exhibition, about 150 companies including 15 tanneries presented their products to entrepreneurs, designers, stylists, and opinion makers. Buyers from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Portugal, Russia, and India are attending the fair.

Sustainability is definitely one of the crucial themes of this year’s edition. A series of conferences focused on this theme was held at the fair, and in the exhibition’s “Sustainability Space” 17 companies presented their innovative solutions in this field.

Also looking in particular at leather, sustainability is a hot topic. Among examples of solutions currently offered by tanneries attending the exhibition, there is JBS Couros’ Kind Leather, enabling to reduce the environmental impact of leather processing and providing full leather traceability.

A program to enhance leather traceability has been developed also by Fuga Couros. Upstream in the leather value chain, at the fair the chemistry company Corium presented its new chemical solution based on a natural polymer, as an alternative to non-organic chemical components used during the tanning process.

The exhibit has been organized jointly by the Brazilian Association of Leather, Footwear and Component Companies, the Brazilian Tanning Industry Center, Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association, the Brazilian Furniture Industry Association, and the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency.
