In a recent survey that involved around one hundred European office furniture distributors, a category which is shifting today from being simple suppliers of furniture items, to become providers of service, consultancy and complete solutions, CSIL tried to understand and describe the main sector’s trends in the coming years.

According to CSIL, the furniture market is forecasted to grow worldwide in the next years. The fastest growing region continues to be Asia and Pacific, with all other regions growing between 1% and 3% in real terms.
In terms of international trade of furniture, all the leading markets have shown a greater degree of openness in the last decade. Naturally there are still important differences among various national markets.
France is the fifth largest furniture exporter in Europe, the eleventh at a global level. With a production of furniture reaching around Eur 7 billion in 2017 and an export on production ratio of about 30% (23% in 2012), the country shows a large potential in the coming years.
The show will be held on Sep 10-13 in Shanghai under the brand new theme of "An example of Global Lifestyle".
Since 2018, every session of CIFF Shanghai will be coorganized by China Foreign Trade Guangzhou Exhibition General Corp. ("CFTE") and Red Star Macalline, China's largest furniture chained shopping mall.

According to CSIL, the European consumption of upholstered furniture was worth over Eur 14 billion in 2017, with different market performances across countries. Overall, the market increased over the last years and benefitted from an improved economic environment.
Germany is the biggest upholstery consuming country, followed by the UK and France. The New EU Members, although accounting for only 13% of the total European consumption, are the best performing markets.

According to the latest edition of the CSIL report “The contract furniture and furnishings market in Europe” (2018) the largest segments of the contract market are Retail, including both mass-market and luxury shops, followed by Hospitality and Office.
With an increasing presence of international tourists, the Hospitality industry in Europe continues to be the main locomotive of the contract furniture and furnishing sector.
Western Europe is a large and mature market for furniture sales, boasting over 420 million consumers and accounting for around one fifth of the global furniture consumption.
After years of difficulties, the furniture market has followed an upward path benefitting from an improved macroeconomic environment.
According to the CSIL report "Furniture distribution in Europe" issued in 2018, the market is forecast to keep growing also in 2018 and 2019.
