The Report provides a breakdown of lighting fixtures market in 30 European countries by segment (Consumer and Professional lighting fixtures market), by products and applications and by light source (LED, Conventional).
This is the twenty ninth edition of The European market for lighting fixtures Report, issued by CSIL, Centre for Industrial Studies. It is the first year that this Report covers all the 30 EU countries. Considered countries: Austria, Belgium-Luxembourg, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom (Europe 17, formerly Europe Part I), Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia (Europe 13, formerly Europe Part II).
Sales data and market shares for over 100 European and International players operating in this area and country data updated to 2019. Activity trend, international trade, product trends: 2014-2019 and forecasts 2020-2023.
Highlighting the two main market segments for lighting fixtures in Europe, Residential-Consumer lighting and Technical-Professional lighting (commercial, industrial and outdoor), the following terminology is used:
- Residential/Consumer lighting (indoor lighting fixtures for home), broken down by style (classic, modern, design) and by positioning of the lamp (floor and table lamps, wall and ceiling lamps, suspensions/chandeliers).
- Architectural/Commercial lighting: indoor lighting fixtures for Hospitality, Offices, Retail, Museums and other places of entertainment, including downlights, low and high voltage spotlights and professional projectors, fluorescence systems, decorative lighting with size or other characteristics designed for markets like hotels, shops, offices, restaurants.
- Industrial lighting: indoor lighting fixtures for industrial use, including healthcare lighting, weather-proof, explosion-proof, marine and emergency lighting.
- Outdoor lighting, broken down into residential lighting (step lighting, bollards, wall outdoor lighting for families), urban landscape and city centres lighting (architectural projectors), street lighting and lighting for major roads (pole mounted), lighting for tunnels and galleries, sporting facilities and other large area spaces, Christmas and special events lighting.

It is the first edition of this Report in which also lamps and lighting controls are included.
In this Report, a focus is also given to the potential growth in selected metropolitan areas (2023 forecast).
A financial analysis is based on a sample of over 350 European companies active in the lighting sector, and includes profitability ratios (EBITDA, EBIT, ROI, ROE), structure ratios, employment data and per employee ratios
The analysis of lighting fixtures distribution channels in Europe covers: direct sales and contract, specialist lighting stores, furniture/lifestyle stores and chains, wholesalers, DIY and Hyper stores, e-commerce. A breakdown of lighting fixtures sales by distribution channel is available for most of the main companies. Short profiles of key influencers for the Contract market, such as architectural offices, free-lance designers, lighting designers, are also provided.
A breakdown of lighting fixtures exports and imports for each European Country considered is provided by country and by geographical area of destination/origin, also considering the performance of the main European companies on extra EU30 markets (Russia and other CIS Countries, Middle East, Asia and Pacific, North America, Central-South America, Africa).
Lighting fixtures sales by product (consumer/residential lighting, architectural/commercial lighting, industrial lighting and outdoor lighting) and by European country of destination are provided for the major local and International companies operating in this market. How lighting products are segmented in the Report

In 2019, consumption of lighting fixtures in the EU30 countries registered a +0.9% increase, thus reaching a total value of EUR 18.1 billion.
LED lamps registered a 14% growth (additionally 1.9 billion Eur) while Conventional lamps registered a -17% (now around 450 million Eur).
To be added also, to reach a grand total for the Lighting market (not considering only lighting fixtures), an estimate of European market for Lighting controls of about 550 million Eur (+4.8%).
Total Lighting market for Europe is so around 21 billion Eur for the year 2019 (+1.6%).
The slight increase of consumption of lighting fixtures comes from a +2% for professional luminaires and around -1% for consumer lighting.
In 2019, the volume of lighting fixtures exports reached EUR 13.4 billion, registering an increase of +0.6%% compared to the previous year. Export is growing in CEE (+5.5%, up to 2.8 billion Eur) and decreasing in WE (10.6 billion, -0.6%).
Imports of lighting fixtures in Europe reached EUR 17.1 billion in 2019, with an increase of 2.6% compared to 2018.
More specifically, imports worth Eur 14.6 billion in WE (+2.4%) and 2.5 billion in CEE (+3.9%).
The Coronavirus crisis will likely to affect, with different accent, the single countries and the many segments of the Lighting sector (Hospitality and Retail will probably be worse, Home, Office and Street lighting will be a little better).
On the whole, it is just a guesstimate at the moment, CSIL estimates that the Lighting market will reach again the levels of 2019 at the end of 2022, to reach an additional growth in 2023.
