THE RTA FURNITURE MARKET IN EUROPE
With a value amounting to over EUR 15 billion, the ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture industry throughout Europe outperformed the fully assembled one, recording a growth of about 17% (2016-2021).
According to the CSIL report The European market for RTA furniture (April 2022), Poland and Germany are the leading producing countries. Over the last twenty years, Eastern Europe eroded market shares to some traditional furniture manufacturing countries.
On the demand side, the consumption of RTA furniture in Europe recorded a cumulative growth of +20% in the time span of 2016-2021. Germany, the UK, France, and Italy are the largest markets for RTA furniture in Europe, accounting for over one-half of the total market.
THE WORLD OUTLOOK FOR OFFICE FURNITURE
According to the CSIL report The world office furniture industry (December 2021), the world office furniture industry reached a total production value of USD 52 billion in 2021. It is a mature sector representing around 10% of total world furniture output. Asia and the Pacific is the main manufacturing area. Production of office furniture is highly concentrated in 8 countries, which account for around 78% of the total output: China, the United States, Japan, Germany, India, Canada, Italy, and Poland.
Production of office furniture dropped by -10% in 2020 due to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and showed a +10% rebound in 2021. The recovery of world office furniture production has been different across regions.
TOP FURNITURE MANUFACTURERS IN EUROPE
With a production value accounting for a little less than one-fourth of the global furniture industry, Europe plays a key role and it is the headquarters of some of the largest global furniture players. According to CSIL, 87 out of the top 200 world furniture manufacturers (see Top 200 furniture manufacturers worldwide) are located in Europe, where furniture manufacturing has a long history.
This, together with cultural heritage, gives the European manufacturers a competitive edge and favors the development of creative competencies recognized worldwide.
