Consolidation and Imports Redraw Europe’s Upholstered Furniture Market
Europe’s upholstered furniture market is large, mature and unusually fragmented. According to CSIL, retail sales reached roughly EUR 40 billion in 2025, around a seventh of global consumption, with Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and the Netherlands together accounting for close to two thirds of the total. In 2025 the market stood more than a fifth above its 2019 level in value, while volumes had merely returned to where they started — a gap explained almost entirely by higher prices rather than additional sofas sold.
