The European Market for Bathroom Furniture and Wellness
In 2018 the European market for bathroom furniture, furnishings and wellness was worth approximately EUR 12 billion, registering an increase of 2.1% (year-on-year). The best performances were reported in Central East Europe, as well as in Spain. These figures include bathroom furniture and accessories, WC seats, bathtubs and whirlpools, sanitary, faucets, shower screens, shower trays, and multifunctional shower booths. Over 10 million bathrooms have been fully replaced, including 5% of luxury bathrooms and 40% of mid and mid-upper.
A THREE-STEP VALUE CHAIN
In Europe, bathroom products are primarily distributed in a three-step value chain, in which wholesalers sell to installers and/or retailers, who in turn sell to consumers. While the majority of the volumes flow through wholesalers, the consumers’ actual purchasing decisions are to a large extent influenced by installers, architects and/or retailers. In general, most bathroom furniture and accessories suppliers with a turnover lower than EUR 100 million focus on the showrooms/retailers’ market (bathroom specialists, kitchen furniture and bathroom specialists), while the top players (with a turnover in excess of EUR 100 million) focus more on the wholesalers’ distribution channel or on large international distributors of construction materials and the DIY distribution network.

The EBITDA margin is on average approximately 9%-10% in the European market for bathroom furniture and wellness. The best performances, in terms of profitability, were registered by Geberit, Villeroy&Boch, Dansani, and Vola.
