Key Insights from the Report
The Norwegian home furniture market appears to be entering a recovery phase after recent weakness, with growth expected to gradually return over the next two years, supported in part by improving residential construction activity. At the same time, Norway remains a high-spending market on a per-capita basis, confirming its relevance as a value-driven furniture market in Northern Europe.
Norway serves as a critical premium terminal market for the European furniture industry. It is exceptionally well-integrated with the EU supply chain, with 76% of its imports originating from the EU27.
The retail scene is currently defined by a “last-mile” logistical race and a significant shift in physical store formats:
- IKEA’s Logistics Power Play: The market leader is heavily investing in speed. In 2025, its massive distribution centre in Vestby is scheduled to start operations, promising a significant “next-day delivery uplift”. This follows its 2024 takeover of a 43,000 sqm central e-commerce warehouse.
- The Big Collapse: the Home & Cottage chain filed for bankruptcy in 2025, with its estate sold off as part of a restructuring event.
- Urbanization of Showrooms: Traditional big-box retailers are heading for city centers. HTH is relocating to a “Design studio / Plan & Order” format in Hamar, and Bohus is planning its first “smaller urban store” in the Herkules shopping centre for 2026.
